Billy Dean Wheat
Reverend Billy Dean Wheat, 68, of Fort Smith, AR, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 in Fayetteville, AR from injuries related to a motorcycle accident on May 25, 2017. He was born June 23, 1949 at Heavener, OK, to Steth and Ruth (Philpott) Wheat. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a Baptist preacher.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his niece Martha Leathers and his sister in law, Phygenia Wheat.
He was called into the ministry at age 17 and recently had retired. During his ministry, Reverend Wheat received a doctorate in Theology from Newburgh Theological Seminary in Newburgh, IN. Since retirement, Bill had planned on continuing to minister through music and speaking for local churches and to continue to help all who he came into contact with in any way he could.
Bill and Glenda were married on September 22, 1967 and next month would have been their 50th anniversary. He was very excited about this anniversary and had already made plans for them before his passing.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Glenda Gayle Wheat of the home, two daughters, Jennifer Williams (David) of Fort Smith, AR and Rachel Kardokus (Darryl) of Howe, OK. Two brothers Don Wheat of Norman and Gene Wheat (Dana) of Poteau. Two sisters Kathryn Ferguson (Carl) and Sue Queen (Jerry) both of Westville, OK, four grandchildren, Tristan, Kara, Dalton, and Raegan, as well as a host of other family members, friends, and loved ones as well as one special friend, Ruth Horton of Poteau, OK.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on, August 26, at 2:00 pm at Cross Community Church Poteau with Bills brother, Don Wheat as speaker. Grace Manor Funeral in charge of arrangements. You may leave an on-line greeting to the family at www.gracemanorfh.com
