Denver Fay Shaw
Denver Fay Shaw passed away in Sparks Regional Medical Center, Fort Smith, Arkansas, on Wednesday morning, September 20, 2017 at the age of 87 years. He was born in Forrester, Arkansas, on August 11, 1930 and was a longtime resident of Spiro, Oklahoma. He was the son of David Golden Dig Shaw and Exie Bea (Copeland) Shaw. Four siblings survive him, his brother David Shaw, Janetta Childress, Shirley Barrow and Ramona Stanfield.
Denver was married to Ruby Donabee (Johnson) Mecom and had one son, Denver Franklin Denny Shaw. He later married Virginia Lee Virgie (Bryant) Shaw, now deceased, who brought four children into the marriage; Bill (and Darlene) Manning, Regina (and Donnie) Rainwater, Pamela Manning and Brian Manning (deceased). He has numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews plus great nieces and nephews. His son Denny, passed away on September 18, 2017; two days before Denver.
Denver attended school in Spiro and graduated from Spiro High School. He also served in the United States Navy during his younger years. He loved to sell produce, especially watermelons, on the street from his pickup truck during the summer and fall months. He was affiliated with the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Pocola, Oklahoma, where he had many friends and occasionally preached sermons. Denver participated in the Danbury Evangelistic Tent Revival movement during the 1970s by preaching the Gospel. Just two years ago, Denver preached during a revival in the Navajo Nation where many miracles were reported.
Viewing will be Friday, September 29, from 8:00am to 8:00pm, family will be present from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The memorial service will be on Saturday, September 30, at 10:00am. Both viewing and service will be held at the Grace Manor Funeral Home in Poteau, 28918 205th Ave, phone: (918) 647-3000. Denver will be interred in the family plot at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will include Bobby Manning, Tommy Manning, Shawn Jones, Michael Varnardo, Ethan Clark, Connor Clark & Oliver Barnett. Contributions for funeral costs for Denver Fay Shaw are requested in lieu of flowers.
