Jimmy Wayne Goodwin, age 72, of Poteau, Oklahoma, died October 2, 2022, at his residence. He was born September 15, 1950, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Henry Norman Goodwin and Vera Jania Blackmon (Goodwin). He was raised by his grandparents, Joseph Lawrence and Edna Mae Goodwin. Jimmy married Mary Lee Wood on June 1, 1974, in Durant, Oklahoma. They had two children, Shannon LeDawn Goodwin (Strain), Tyler, Texas, and Joseph Andrew Goodwin, Aubrey, Texas.
Jimmy lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with AJ and Corky McAlester and their three daughters: Angela Spencer, Elizabeth Jones, and Mary Jane Peterkin, while going to and graduating from Memorial High School. Jimmy studied at the Oklahoma School of Business and Accounting and graduated in 1973.
Jimmy went on to serve his country by joining the United States Army from 1970 1972 and relisted in 1974 1977. He went on to have a career in banking and served his community for over 30 years.
Jimmy loved fishing and hunting, also working in his sawmill. One of his biggest pleasures was watching OU "Sooners" football games on Saturday, even when the score didnt always go his way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Jimmy is survived bu his wife, Mary Lee Goodwin; daughter Shannon LeDawn Goodwin (Strain); son Joseph Andrew Goodwin; numerous relatives, and many friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion in Poteau, Oklahoma, with his best friend Roger Barger officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Grace Funeral Services, Poteau, Oklahoma.
