Obituary for
Murel W. Siler
Murel W. Siler, 86, of Poteau, Ok, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016, in Poteau. She was born June 22, 1930 in Sasakwa, OK to James E. and Pauline (Lankford) Johnson. She was a telephone operator for South Western Bell until she met and married John Siler. She became the mother of 4 daughters and lived an;/
active life in her community as a Girl Scout leader, piano teacher, church pianist, childrens choir director, hand chimes director, member of the Cavanal Chorale, National Federation of Music Club member and past president, and other organizations and positions both political and civic. She was the head cheerleader for each of her children and her husband of 57 years, through the good and the hard times. It was the love of and faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that carried her through each blessing and challenge she faced.
Preceding her in death were parents, two brothers Durelgene Johnson and Dwayne Johnson, and her sister Wynema Johnson, and son-in-law Dana Burkett.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 57 years, John Siler of the home, four daughters, Millie Baber and husband Marvin of Colorado Springs, Co, Valorie Brown and husband Monte of Hodgen, OK, Rene Burkett of Austin, TX and Risa Hollinger of Poteau, grandchildren, Sean and Brittany Baber, Charles and Sonya Brown, John Jared Brown, Jamie and Jeremy Pearson, Heidi and George Emmons, Devin and Stacey Burkett, Bonnie and Derrick Lee, Abby Love Walker, Justine Hollinger and MacKenzie Buchanan, twenty-two great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, as well as a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Charles Sam Brown, John Jared Brown, Otis Bruce, David Griesel, Ronnie Johnson, and Derrick Lee.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 3rd,, 2016, at Covenant Church /Poteau First Assembly, Poteau OK, with Pastor Keith Williams and Pastor Randy Morlan officiating. Interment will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 4th, 2016 in El Reno Cemetery, El Reno, OK. Services are under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home, Poteau, OK. Viewing will be Monday and Tuesday 9:00 A.M.- 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 6:00PM 8:00PM at the funeral home on Tuesday.
