Opal Elizabeth Middlebrooks, 100, of Shady Point, OK, passed away Monday, May 9, 2011, in Poteau, OK. Opal Elizabeth was born November 16, 1910, in Irene, TX, to Norris Alexander and Denora (Baker) Griffing. She married Johnnie Delbert Middlebrooks on February 1, 1946, in Shallowater, TX. She was a seamstress, a homemaker, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Poteau
Opal was preceded in death by her husband Delbert Middlebrooks; a daughter-in-law Fay Chastain; six brothers; and two sisters.
Opal is survived by her children, Billy Jack Chastain of Spring, TX, Willie Don Middlebrooks and wife Linda Sue of Shady Point, OK, Ruth Ann Imre and husband Frank of Shady Point, OK, Anita Duchat and husband Butch of Shady Point; a brother, Eugene Griffing of Brownfield, TX; a sister, Ruth Hines of Brownfield, TX; ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Bruton, Jerry Gist, Keith Reed, Dan Thomas, Frank Imre, Ernie Reichelt and Scottie Scott.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May12, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church, Poteau, OK, with Rev. Dr. Greg Tener officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK. The Family will greet friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
