Ruth Alice Garrett
Ruth Alice Garrett, 90, passed away, May 16, 2013, in Poteau. She was born August 7, 1922, in Palestine,Texas, to C.S. and Myrtle (Hughes) Carter. Ruth was the twelfth of thirteen children and the last to part this earth. She retired from Civil Service, after more than thirty years, where she worked for low income housing in Talihina. In addition she worked for lawyers and done taxes for over fifty years. She was a dedicated member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church for some seventy years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Ed Garrett; a son Jerry Vadnais; siblings, Lillian Dagley, Reath Burleson, Pal Jones, Marge Sweeten, Ethel Vian, Jane LaRue, Bouge Carter, Jess Carter, Web Carter, Casey Carter, Doc Carter, Bill Carter; one great grandson Baby Charley.
Ruth is survived by her children, Mike Vadnais and wife Carlette of Broken Bow, OK, Pat Vadnais and wife Sue of Visalia, CA, Jack and wife Thea Vadnais of Napa, CA, Jeanie and husband Donnie Holland of Poteau, OK; thirteen grandchildren, Chad, Moni, Angelia, John, Clint, Tammie, Shelly, Terra, Caitlin, Jack, Tommy, Mike, and Timothy; twenty one great grandchildren and more than a hundred others that thought of her as their grandmother; a daughter-in-law Helen Vadnais of Talihina, OK; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, friends and loved ones.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Wageman, David Holland, Michael Holland, John Vadnais, Moni Vadnais,Evan King, Chad Vadnais and Bobby King. Honorary pallbearers will be Junior Carter and Robert King.
Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Grace Manor Memorial Chapel, Poteau, OK, with Bro. Jeff Little and Bro. Cecil Holcomb officiating. Interment will follow service at Talihina Cemetery, Talihina, OK. You may offer condolences to the family from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau. You may leave an on-line greeting to the family at www.gracemanorfh.com
