Tela Barnes, 98, of Poteau, OK, went to heaven to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Tela was born January 24, 1917, at Hackett, AR, to Albert Hudson and Vertie Boggs. She married Oscar (Ott) E. Barnes in Howe, Oklahoma on October 1, 1932. They raised three sons, mostly in Southern California area from the mid 1930s until 1968. They were married until his passing in January of 1968. She moved to Heavener, Oklahoma, in 1973, caring for her elderly mother for ten years. She loved her church and was very active there until she became disabled. She remained in LeFlore County until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Oscar Everett Barnes, three brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.
Tela is survived by three sons, Dale Barnes of Stillwater, OK, Albert Barnes of Arlington, TX and Jack Barnes of Scottsdale, AZ, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a host of other family members, friends and loved ones.
Viewing visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the funeral home. Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015 at Sugarloaf Christian Fellowship, (Monroe, OK) with Bro. Les Scroggins officiating. Memorials: flowers or donations to Sugarloaf Christian Fellowship, 35204 Midway Road, Poteau, OK 74953. Interment will be at a later date at Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier, CA.
